The Virgin of Chiquinquira is one of many dedications to the venerated figure of the Virgin Mary in Catholicism. It is also regarded by the faithful as the patron saint of the Republic of Colombia, in Venezuela's Zulia state and city Caraz in the department of Ancash, Peru.

In Colombia the image rests in the Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Rosario de Chiquinquira, where thousands of pilgrims come not only on the day of its patron saint on July 9 but every Sunday where they celebrate the Mass and processions, additionally 3 July 1986 the then Pope John Paul II visited the shrine and prayed at the feet of the Virgin Mary for peace in Colombia. On 9 July 1999, the canvas last visited the city of Bogota to the presidency of Prayer for Peace.
